Stephen started his career in 1989 working in Investment Banking in NY, and then spent 25 years working across various aspects of traditional financial markets in London and New York. In 2017 he dove into Blockchain, and spent time developing regulated crypto businesses in offshore locations such as Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Bermuda, and Jersey. Most recently he was advising Alan Howard on a variety of blockchain businesses, before co- founding the innovative insurance business in Bermuda. Prior to advising Alan, Stephen worked with William Shihara (co-founder, below) to develop the international business of Bittrex and was CEO of various Bittrex entities he set up / built outside the US.
Prior to Bittrex Global, Stephen’s TradFi career spanned Asset Management (Institutional and Private Client), Hedge Funds (Discretionary, Macro, Credit, Quantitative), Sales & Trading (Credit and Credit Derivatives), and Mergers and Acquisitions, Functional roles included CEO positions at two Hedge Funds in NY (Brevan Howard and Winton Capital), Managing Director positions at large Investment Banks (JPMorgan, Deutsche Bank, Credit Suisse, Goldman Sachs). Throughout his TradFi career, Stephen has been intrigued by the gap between Capital markets and Insurance markets, and has set up Insurance vehicles to exploit credit arbitrage opportunities. He has also held various board positions for listed companies and charitable foundations, is married with a daughter, and holds dual US and UK citizenship. Stephen holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from Columbia University.
