Simon Johnson is a regional investment strategist who currently serves as an Investment Officer at IDB Lab where he oversees the Lab’s investment efforts across its six Caribbean member countries: The Bahamas, Jamaica, Suriname, Guyana, Barbados, and Trinidad & Tobago. Simon’s responsibilities include supervision, originating, and structuring both debt and equity investments.

Beyond his regional work, Simon is a part of the IDB Lab’s Direct Equity team, through which he evaluates equity opportunities in both the Caribbean and Latin America. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Banking & Finance and a master’s degree in economics, both from the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus in Jamaica, with a focus on development and financial economics. Simon has passed levels I and II of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) program offered by the CFA Institute.

With a robust technical background, Simon has successfully led cross-functional teams and managed deals from origination to completion within the Caribbean and extra-regionally. Simon also has experience in conducting quantitative and policy-based economic research. Simon is also passionate about advancing financial literacy in the Caribbean. In 2019, he founded a financial literacy platform aimed at creating inclusive in-person and digital learning spaces where individuals can build and maintain a healthy relationship with their money.
