Richie Campbell is one of the most relevant artists of the last decade on the national stage. Known as Portugal’s first internet musical phenomenon to succeed on a national and international scale, Richie has become one of the country’s biggest musical exports in the last decade, with his unique blend of R&B, Reggae, Dancehall and, Afrobeats.
In 2010 Richie released his first album “My Path” only available online for free. The album registered roughly 300,000 downloads to date, cementing Richie as Portugal’s first internet musical phenomenon and building a huge fan base that lead to a sold-out show in one of the biggest venues in Portugal – Campo Pequeno Bullring (over 6,000 people) – a unique achievement for an unsigned artist.
2012 witnessed the release of Richie Campbell’s second album “Focused”. The first single “That’s How We Roll” was awarded “Song of the Year” by the National Radio Awards and nominated for the Portuguese Golden Globes in 2013. The album was number 1 on the National Top Charts for 6 weeks, confirming his status as one of the biggest and most successful artists in Portugal. By the end of the “Focused Tour”, his return to Campo Pequeno Bullring resulted in the acclaimed Richie CampbellLive at Campo PequenoCD/DVD, licensed by Sony Music.
For his third album in 2015, Richie Campbell did a surprise release of the album “In the 876” and in less than two hours the album reached nr 1 on the iTunes charts. This Album was recorded in Kingston, Jamaica and, Lisbon, Portugal. Its name is a reference to Jamaica’s telephone area code. “In the 876” features the likes of the Cape Verdian Sara Tavares and the Jamaicans – Agent Sasco, Toian and, Jesse Royal.
2017 marked the release of Richie Campbell’s most pivotal solo album, “Lisboa” which brought a new and more mature sound to Richie’s repertoire and which was critically acclaimed, garnering over 40 million streams and over 100 million views on YouTube. And ultimately resulted in a show in Portugal’s biggest concert venue Altice Arena (around 18,000 people).
In 2023, Richie’s long awaited fifth album “Heartbreak & Other Stories” brought a new line of influences for the artist as well as the second sold-out show under his name in Altice Arena. With the success of the singles Tsunami with Gson, Let You Go, Floating and Love Again as well as collaborations with Bella Shmurda, Jah Vinci and producers Kel-P, Richie Campbell has his sights set on the next step in his international music journey.
